Community Education Programs

Our goal is to provide a broad range of educational programs that meet community and individual needs.

We try to offer programs to cater for everyone from babies and pre-school aged children, school aged children, parents and including everyone through to our more senior community members.

Some specific examples include:

  • Fitness Training
  • Computer Courses
  • Cooking Courses for Adults and Children
  • Music Lessons for Adults and Children
  • Dancing Classes for Adults and Children
  • Art and Craft Classes for Adults and Children
  • Accredited Courses (such as First Aid)
  • Yoga and Tai Chi

Regular and Ongoing Activities

Along with our range of education programs, we also offer ongoing activities for all ages, including:

  • Merv Goes to Hollywood (Luncheon and Movie Appreciation Group)
  • Bus Trips to Various Local Attractions
  • Peninsula Art Group
  • Dunalley and Nubeena Playgroups
  • Parenting Groups (such as Dunalley Tasman Support Group)
  • General Interest Groups (such as Mah-Jong, Crochet)
  • Nubeena Walking Group

 

School Holiday Program

We offer a School Holiday Program for 5 to 12 year old children, during the four major holidays each year.

A local bus service provides transport to an activity such as:

  • Swimming at the Hobart Aquatic Centre
  • Movies at Eastlands
  • Bowling in Moonah
  • A day at the beach
  • Woody’s Roller World.

 

Special Events

We help to organise annual events in our community such as the Seniors Christmas Lunch in Dunalley.

From time to time we receive funding to arrange special events in the community, such as:

  • Parenting Expo and Family Fun Day (Nubeena)
  • Climate Change Information Day (Dunalley)
  • Winter Bush Dance (Koonya)
  • Community Concerts (Copping)

Our centres in Dunalley and Nubeena offer a range of facilities including;

    • Community Internet Access
    • Photocopying and Faxing
    • Laminating
    • Venue Hire for Service Providers
    • Meeting Room for Community Groups
    • Assistance with Job Applications
    • Grant Application Assistance
    • Car Pooling Noticeboards
    • Parent Resource Library (lending books, equipment and toys)
    • Community Op Shop (Dunalley)
    • Community Garden (Dunalley)

 

We also host a number of visiting professional health service providers, including Massage Therapists.

Information and Referral

Our centres in Dunalley and Nubeena provide information on local community services and have a range of information available on support services that are available to community members.

If you have any needs or questions that you would like assistance with, please feel free to contact us at any time.

We can also offer assistance to Health Care Card holders with applying for loans under the NILS (No Interest Loans) Scheme, which can provide no interest loans for the purchase of essential household items such as washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, car repairs, school books or other necessary purchases.

How to Find Out More

We produce a newsletter four times year (following the seasons), which is distributed free to all households within our catchment area which details our current education programs and activities for each term. Copies are also available to collect from local shops and businesses.
